Obama criticized for remarks on small towns- LA TIMES

The L.A. TIMES, article touched on the issue of Barack Obama making remarks towards the middle working class people that live in small towns. Obama stated, "You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Clinton criticized Obama and stated, "Pennsylvania doesn't need a president who looks down on them," the New York senator said at a Philadelphia rally. "They need a president who stands up for them, who fights for them." McCain's strategist also criticized Obama by saying, "It's a remarkable statement and extremely revealing," said Steve Schmidt. "It shows an elitism and a condescension toward hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking."

The article in the L.A. Times differed quite a bit from the article covering the same news story in the N.Y. Times. The L.A. Times didn't seem biased in any way. It was a short story that went straight for the facts and didn't seem to favor any of the candidates or sway the reader with an emotional appeal in any specific direction.

The N.Y. Times article was much different because it seemed to create more of an appeal towards Obama.
